2014 Scion Tuner Challenge cars debut at SEMA

Scion 1

Set to be revealed at the 2014 SEMA Show, this year’s Scion Tuner Challenge pits 3 automotive publications in modifying and customizing a Scion FR-S Release Series 1.0 with a budget of only USD 15,000 (about PHP 674,400).

First up is the Super Street FR-S finished in Speed Yellow. It has a stock bodykit with a Rocket Bunny and GReddy Version 1 front fenders and Version 2 rear fenders. Both its hood and trunk are made from carbon fiber courtesy of Seibon. It has custom 18-inch Floss Edition BBS LM wheels which are wrapped in Nitto NT05 275/35/R18 tires at the front and 295/35/R18 tires at the rear. Sitting behind the wheels is a Wilwood brake system that is comprised of 6-piston front big brake kit and 4-piston rear big brake kit with street pads.

Scion 2

Inside, it has a 6 point roll cage from Godspeed, Recaro Sporster CS seats and a Pioneer AVIC-8000NEX head unit that is channeled through 12-inch subwoofers, amplifiers and speaker components.

Scion 3

The 2.0-liter 4U-GSE/FA20 Boxer engine has been upgraded with the following parts; Borla header and catback exhaust with custom quad tips, MoTec M1 ECU, 1000cc injectors from Injector Dynamics, Rywire custom brake line tuck kit, fuel kit, radiator line kit and clutch line kit, custom drive-by-wire from ITB Bracket and SPEC clutch and flywheel. The undercarriage has also been tuned and includes KW Clubsport coilovers, Eibach rear camber kit and Whiteline front and rear sway bars.

Scion 4

Up next is the Speedhunters FR-S painted in white and accented with a unique livery. The body is fitted with KM4SH overfenders, Charvonia Design fender vents and rear diffuser, Grimmspeed hood struts and an AeroJacket trunk. The wheel-wells are decorated with custom 17-inch wheels from Rotiform BLQ that are wrapped in Nitto NT01 235/40/R17 at the front and 315/35/R17 at the rear. Stopping power is provided by a Wilwood Narrow Superlite big brake kit. It has 12.88-inch disc rotors with 6-pistons at the front and 4 pistons at the rear.

Scion 5

The cabin is surrounded with a Cusco 4 point roll cage while the seats are sourced from TRD/Speedhunters custom Cobra RS Classic lowback bucket seats. Additional equipment inside the car include a JPM Coachworks custom leather trim and Takata 4 point harnesses.

Scion 6

Upgrades to the 2.0-liter boxer unit include a Airraid intake, Chasebays tucked engine harnesses, Delicious Tuning ECU tune and FlexFuel kit, Cosworth Stage 2.0 supercharger kit and JDL UEL header, overpipe, front pipe, and 3-inch single exit exhaust. Underneath, it has Raceseng Cascam plates, RSR Black-i coilovers, SPC Performance rear toe arms and SuperPro front/rear sway bars.

Scion 7

Last but not least is the GT Channel FR-S which has a 2-tone silver-gray finish. The body is festooned with a front lip spoiler from Esprit, Avest wing and side mirrors, and carbon fiber hood, trunk and rear diffuser from Seibon. Finishing it all of is a vinyl graphic courtesy of Route 20. Eighteen-inch Volk Racing ZE40 wheels are wrapped in Bridgestone Potenza R11S 265/35/R18 and sitting behind them is an upgraded Wilwood brake kit with APR brake ducts.

Scion 8

Aboard the cabin, it has Recaro seats, and a Pioneer touchscreen receiver that is channeled through a 4-channel amp and G-Series speakers.

Scion 9

Additional upgrades given to to the 2.0-liter boxer engine include a HKS GT supercharger kit, Unorthodox Racing crank pulley, HPS Performance silicone hoses, Ganador exhaust, 5Zigen straight pipe and a CSF radiator. Suspension modifications done to the FR-S consist of KW Suspension Clubsport coilovers, Whiteline strut tower brace, adjustable rear lower control arms, complete lower front arm assembly, camber adjusting bolt and various bushings and Spoon Sports rigid collars.

The 3 cars will be put on display at the 2014 SEMA Show which will be held at the Las Vegas Convention Center from November 4-7, 2014.
